Lynk & Co is Geely's premium sub-brand, sitting between mainstream Geely and Volvo in the group hierarchy. The connection to Volvo is not marketing — Lynk & Co cars share platforms, safety architecture and firmware layers with Volvo. This makes them uniquely valuable in the Chinese EV market: Volvo-grade engineering at Chinese pricing. It also makes localization a slightly different job than for pure-Chinese brands.
The 900 SUV — the flagship we focus on
Lynk & Co 900 is the brand's newest full-size electric SUV (2025-2026). It runs on Volvo's SPA2 platform — the same one under the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3. Range up to 700 km, up to 578 hp AWD, 14.6-inch central screen. Positioned as an XC90 EV alternative at roughly half the price. This is the model most owners want localized when they import a Chinese Lynk & Co.

Two firmware layers, not one
Unlike pure-Chinese brands (BYD, Deepal, Leapmotor) that run a single Android-based infotainment, Lynk & Co 900 has two firmware layers stacked together: Volvo Cars OS handles the driving experience — ADAS (Pilot Assist), instrument cluster, safety warnings, driver monitoring. Geely SGA (Smart Geely Architecture) handles infotainment — media, navigation, apps, voice assistant, HUD content.
Both layers ship in Chinese. Localization has to translate both without breaking the handshake between them (e.g. a safety warning fired by Volvo OS must appear correctly on the Geely-driven display). This is why we don't touch Lynk & Co the same way we touch a BYD.
What we preserve — Volvo Safety Sense
Volvo Pilot Assist (adaptive cruise + lane-keep + auto-steer), lane departure warning, auto emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring — every ADAS feature that ships with the car stays fully functional after localization. Warnings, chimes and voice prompts translate to English (or Russian, or Arabic). The 5-star China NCAP rating is not affected, because we don't touch the safety layer's logic — only its language files.

SPA2 platform natively supports CCS2 fast charging. No firmware patch needed — the car simply detects the connector type. Works on Ionity, Fastned, Electrify America and every UAE/GCC network. This is a big deal compared to some BYD models where CCS2 has to be flashed in.
