Chinese EV Localization — The Complete 2026 Guide for Every Brand

Chinese EV localization is a rapidly developing service market. Over the last 3 years RED TEAM has completed more than 5000 language change jobs across 13 major Chinese brands and dozens of models. This overview guide summarizes the entire niche in one place: which brands work how, where the difficulties are, what to expect in price and timing.

All brands we work with

As of July 2026 our niche covers 13 brands and 30+ models. Below is a short profile of each and the localization difficulty level.

BYD — most mainstream, optimal complexity

BYD is the largest Chinese EV maker. Models: Han, Tang, Song Plus, Sealion, Yuan Plus, Dolphin, Seal, Leopard 3/5/7. Localization is relatively simple — standard Android platform. Cost: 250-400 USD. Timing: 2-4 hours. See dedicated guide.

AITO — premium, HarmonyOS, hardest

Models: N7, N9, Z9 GT. BYD's premium sub-brand. Same platform as regular BYD but with extended premium features. Cost: 400-600 USD. Timing: 3-5 hours. Often has unique features like triple HUD projection or advanced voice assistant.

Dongfeng — mainstream, easy

How to choose a brand from localization perspective

If future service simplicity matters — pick BYD, Leapmotor, Deepal, Roewe. Most unified and predictable platforms. If you want max tech and aren't afraid of complexity — AITO, Avatr, Li Auto. They give HarmonyOS, advanced ADAS, LiDARs. But service is more expensive and takes longer.

If budget is tight — Leapmotor, Nissan N7, Dongfeng, Changan. Cheap to localize, simple to service.

Universal rules for all brands

Regardless of brand there are 5 universal rules. First — warranty is preserved if we don't touch critical systems. Second — SIM soldering is possible on any model. Third — CarPlay/Android Auto can be activated on any modern Android platform. Fourth — firmware rollback is always possible because we backup. Fifth — we work remotely (except SIM soldering).

Bottom line — comparison table

Easy (250-400 USD, 2-4 hours): BYD, Leapmotor, Dongfeng, Changan, Nissan N7, Roewe. Medium (350-600 USD, 3-5 hours): Deepal, Li Auto, Lynk & Co, Denza. Hard (500-800 USD, 4-8 hours): AITO, Avatr, Toyota (Chinese versions). Exact price always quoted after diagnostics. Payment only after work confirmation.
