Avatr HarmonyOS Localization — Guide for 07, 11, 12 (2026)

Avatr is a unique three-way joint venture of Chinese giants: Changan (automotive), Huawei (multimedia and ADAS) and CATL (batteries). Launched in 2018, Avatr positions itself as an answer to Tesla, BMW and Mercedes in the Chinese premium EV segment. Avatr localization is one of the most complex tasks in our practice.

Five-seat premium crossover for 2024-2025. Brand's first mass-market model. Impressive equipment: Huawei ADS 2.0 (advanced autopilot), 3 LiDARs, triple HUD projection, custom Meridian acoustics, wireless charging for multiple devices. Direct BMW X5 competitor.

Avatr 11

Flagship premium crossover. Brand's first model, launched 2022. Known as "the SUV with the world's biggest LiDAR array" (literally — 3 LiDARs + 6 radars + 12 cameras). Mercedes GLE competitor in the Chinese segment.

Avatr 12

Premium sedan. Direct BMW 5 Series competitor in the Chinese segment. More traditional design but same tech: HarmonyOS, Huawei ADS 2.0, LiDARs.

Why Avatr is harder than AITO

Both AITO and Avatr run HarmonyOS from Huawei. But Avatr uses a **modified HarmonyOS version with Changan layer integration** — that's one more complexity level. If we localize AITO with the "standard HarmonyOS approach", Avatr also needs Changan-specific components handled — which AITO and Deepal don't have.

Also: Avatr has more complex Huawei ADS 2.0 integration — localizing autopilot notifications requires working with proprietary Huawei protocols. If for AITO we can "just translate the UI", on Avatr many notifications are generated on the fly from LiDAR data and need to be intercepted and translated in real time.

What we do during Avatr localization

Full HarmonyOS interface + Changan layer translation, Google apps installation via special compatibility layer, all three HUD projections localized, English AI assistant integrated alongside Xiaoyi, Huawei ADS 2.0 notifications translated (navigation, lane-change warnings, parking), CarPlay and Android Auto activated via special setup, SIM slot install, latest firmware update.

Unique service — English navigation integrated with LiDARs. Avatr's LiDARs can "see" road signs — we translate sign display on HUD projection from Chinese to English. Works even offline — uses the built-in Huawei neural network.

Avatr warranty

There's a nuance. Avatr uses a "triple" warranty: Changan covers chassis and electrics, Huawei — multimedia and ADAS, CATL — battery. Localization can formally touch the Huawei part, so careful approach is needed. We work **only with the HarmonyOS UI layer**, not touching the ADS 2.0 core — this preserves warranty. Across 50+ Avatr jobs, no rejections.

The only scenario where questions might arise — if the owner goes to an official Huawei dealer (not Changan) with an ADAS issue. In that case we do a 30-minute rollback to original before the visit.

Cost and timing

Avatr 07: 5-6 hours, 550-650 USD. Avatr 11: 6-7 hours, 650-800 USD (more LiDARs and more complex ADAS integration). Avatr 12: 5-6 hours, 550-700 USD. Price includes: HarmonyOS localization, Changan layer, apps, HUD localization ×3, ADS 2.0 notifications integration, AI assistant (1 year), SIM slot.
